momentum following the presidential debat debates, president obama stumping in california, mitt romney also on the road after what many saw as a lackluster debate last week for the president in particular. he's hoping the new lower unemployment rate will give him a boost. the president is attending a fund-raiser in los angeles, and then he heads on to ohio. mitt romney in the meantime is spending the weekend in florida where yesterday he spent much of the day preparing for the next debate. it's a must-win state if he wants to capture the white house. >>> and, of course, you don't want to forget that the vice presidential debate is this thursday. joe biden and paul ryan squaring off. our cnn coverage begins at 7:00 eastern time. >>> all right. some news for your car out there. honda is recalling 268,000 crvs, its popular suv, model years 2002 to 2006. they say there's a faulty window stwich in the driver's side door, and if it gets wet it can start fire. no crashes or injuries have been reported but honda knows a four-switch fires. >>> space travel will be a business with a launch tonight. s

. what's your policy? >>> mitt romney riding high a week after the colorado debate, want you to take a look at some new numbers and there you go. a new poll of likely voters shows romney has edged ahead of president obama and the numbers say it clearly, 49% to 45%. cnn's political editor paul steinhauser joins me live from washington as he does almost daily with the numbers story. but i want you to put this one in perspective. is this a huge deal 28 days until election day? >> that's right, four weeks to go until the election, and let's go back to the pew poll number because it does suggest that mitt romney got a bounce out of the debate last wednesday in denver, colorado. let's go to the numbers on the left. you can see the new numbers. this is the new poll from pew and it indicates romney with a four-point advantage, within the sampling error but look at the september numbers, an eight poi eight-point advantage for the president. let's go to gallup. this is of registered voters conducted both before and after the debate and you can see the president with a five-point advantage. so it

last debate, no doubt it's going to come up in the next debate, and now romney has a chance to get ahead of that and sort of premessage on it, shape the debate and discussion about it, and sort of try to neutralize it a little bit for himself even before that debate happens so that when the president, if he does try to bring it up, romney can try to inoculate himself a little bit from the attacks saying, look, i have already said i was wrong. no doubt, you know, expect the obama team to say he is flip-flopping, this is something we've seen before, but now the governor, former governor, has about two weeks to sort of massage his message, and you see a real political game going on here. it's a real fight. >> yep. okay. jessica, thank you. appreciate it. >> american airlines now blaming passengers for jamming the lox that cause the seats on three flights to come loose. now, a spokeswoman says the lox, like the one shown here, got stuck after passengers "gunked them up" with spilled coffee and soda. the airline promises it won't happen again. the seats just the latest in a series of tr

think what you heard last night was the answer mitt romney would have given in the presidential debate wednesday night if he had been asked by president obama or the moderator about it. they were prepared to talk about the 47% number controversy in the debate. the president never brought it up. it didn't come up in the debate. last night on fox he was asked by sean hannity, what would you have said, were you asked. that was the answer. it's not an about face, they say. actually his comments are pretty close to what they've been saying since the controversy first came about. you heard had him in those comments. you heard talk of him being president of all 100%. that's something he said for a few weeks. >> he never totally rejected what he said in that secretly recorded tape. his camp is now saying that his thoughts on the 47% remark are consistent? >> they're saying it isn't very different from what he has been saying all along. the words you played sound to me to be a little different than what he said in the past. those comments are from september 17th in that impromptu news conferenc

reviews for his debate performance against president obama, mitt romney is running in political news that may be blunting that momentum. the new unemployment report showing that the jobless rate has dipped below 8%, really taking away one of his key lines of attack against the president. for months, mitt romney has been saying the president failed to take the nation's unemployment rate below 8%, but at an event here in coal country in virginia, romney found a new way to crunch the numbers. here is what he had to say. >> there were fewer new jobs created this month than last month, and the unemployment rate, as you noted this year, has come down very, very slowly. but it has come down nonetheless. the reason it has come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work. >> reporter: now for much of this weekend, romney will be campaigning across the state of florida, a state where the economic message will resonate on the state's unemployment rate has gone down in recent months, it is well above the national average. brooke? >> ji

presidential debate tonight. mitt romney, he is gaining in two swing states. could this be romney's springboard? romney has whittled the president's lead, take a look. he's whittled the president's lead in the two percentage points in virginia. this is according to a poll released today by marist college, the wall street journal and also nbc news. two-point lead for obama, that's down five points last month. keep in mind we're talking virginia, that's 13 electoral votes there. and check it out, similar story for you in florida. 29 electoral votes there. now, a one-point, one-point lead for obama, down from four points in september. we should mention here that poll shows the president still with the seven-point lead in ohio. we can't forget about ohio. but speaking nationwide here, the president's lead, in our cnn poll of polls, you can see it here, stands at 3 percentage points, unchanged. as we noticed today, kind of interesting, the president has gained one point and romney dropped one point. this is the gallup national tracking poll. obama with a six-point lead there, six-point l

favor of mitt romney. check this out. this is what has happened since that debate last wednesday. this is gallup's daily tracking poll. a dead heat here when you look at the different numbers, a dead heat for the race for president, down from the five-point advantage for the president not too long ago. that five-point advantage as you can see now totally gone, gone in the tracking poll. i know you're sitting there, looking athe numbers and asking, what about the state polls, they're the ones who count, right? you have virginia and ohio and florida, yes, we are seeing signs of movement toward romney, but do keep in mind before last wednesday, those three big states were firming up nicely for obama. give us one day or two on that. we promise we'll be watching the three states for you as we move forward. on the topic of debates here, keep this in mind as well this is a big week. we have the vice presidential debate coming up this thursday. that's biden versus ryan here. a week from tomorrow, obama versus romney. and then those two again, two weeks from today, that's the final debate
